We’ve always regarded the St. Regis New York as not just one of the best hotels in New York City, but one of the best in the world. Being where the story of the St. Regis’ brand began over a century ago by the founder John Jacob Astor IV, whom at that time was known to be one of the wealthiest men in the world.

Our stay at the St. Regis New York was the beginning of our $70,000 ‘Round-The-World’ honeymoon trip, a stay which was supposed to be filled with a great experience since this was our wedding night took a different turn and became a disappointing event.
After an entire day of wedding activities, we arrived at the hotel at 2am super exhausted. We had to do several trips with William (the bellman) to get all our stuff from the car to the lobby. The check-in experience was just ‘meh’ and we were assigned a room on the 4th floor.
A mere basic room with no welcome amenities. Not even a butler welcome, nor a handwritten note to congratulate us for our wedding even though I had reached out to the hotel and planned for a special occasion prior to our arrival.
Anyway, in all honesty, to say I am disappointed is an understatement.
Just like we had a horrible experience during our second stay at The St. Regis Bal Harbour where we were stripped of our suite and special occasion amenities, and instead delayed before checking us in into their worst room. The St. Regis Brand in my own opinion seems to be going down the drain. Although I’ve had such an exquisite experience in the past at The St. Regis Atlanta, and at one of my all-time favorite St. Regis locations which recently got rebranded to a JW Marriott brand. The St. Regis Mauritius.
Anyway, this post is all about St. Regis New York, so let’s get back on track. Not only that we were assigned one of their worst rooms at this hotel, but we were also ripped off of our hard-earned $$$.
Since we arrived at the hotel at 2am, we were told to use street parking because the so-called hotel’s “garage” is closed at this time. And even though we parked our car in the street all night, the hotel still charged us $88.78 for valet parking. A service that was only partially provided.

But it’s not all bad service entirely at this Forbes 5-star and AAA 5-diamond historic hotel. As a Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador elite, we treated ourselves (my darling wife and I) to a great breakfast the next morning. As of October 2021, the hotel was only offering in-room dining, which was just perfect for us. The hotel offered $46 per guest for full American breakfast.
Though the items on the menu were limited, the food was good. We truly couldn’t fault anything about the food.
My Verdict:
On our wedding night, and for our loyalty to Marriott Bonvoy as a Marriott Ambassador elite, we expected a better treatment. But instead, we were treated like peasants. Not for the first time, but for the second time now which now makes it seems like it’s a common thing with St. Regis.
But, here at The Points Engineer, we always try to make the best of every situation. Hence, we still tried to enjoy our stay despite all the maltreatments we received from The St. Regis New York. In our opinion, this hotel did not worth the $1,200 per night (cash rate), nor the 85,000 Marriott Bonvoy points that we paid.
In conclusion, this hotel is definitely not the best address in New York, since the service provided did not live up to that “live exquisite” that the St. Regis brand boasts of.

[…] Previous story The St. Regis New York – Oh what a disappointment […]
[…] Throughout the check-in process, we felt ignored and my Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador status wasn’t acknowledged or appreciated. No proper apologies were rendered, there was no welcome gift, and we weren’t informed about our elite benefits, which added to our disappointing experience. Something which made me questioned why I paid $250 (220 Euros) here when I could have been better off at a downtown hotel, or even at the airport terminal.
