The St. Regis Atlanta: A 5-Star Southern Hospitality

Located in one of Atlanta’s most upscale cities, Buckhead, the St. Regis Atlanta is a AAA Five Diamond crown jewel and one of the most-luxurious hotels in Atlanta Georgia. Known for its tradition for innovation and opulent hospitality, The St. Regis brand offers comfort and uncompromising service with its’ “Live Exquisite” rituals.

To take advantage of the Marriott Bonvoy off-peak rates that was introduced in June, I decided to have a stopover in Atlanta for the review of this hotel before heading out to Miami for more hotel reviews. There couldn’t have been a better way to burn 50,000 Marriott points than on this most expensive Hotel in Atlanta. Booking this Category 7 Marriott property per night requires 50,000 points during off-peak, 60,000 points for standard rate, and 70,000 points during peak season.

From the moment you walk into the dimly lit hotel lobby, you’ll feel a warmth air and southern elegance with glittering chandeliers, curved staircases, and the head painted in oil, hung against lacquered wood-paneled walls to put you in a mood for a retreat.

CHECKING IN:

I was checked in by a gentleman at the front desk who politely thanked me for being a Marriott Titanium elite. He further explained what amenities were available and the ones that were temporarily unavailable due to COVID-19. Prior to my arrival, I had been upgraded to a Corner St. Regis Suite, 1 King, Alternate bed: sofa bed, with 1.5 Bathrooms. An upgrade I requested using Suite Night Award (SNA). Staying at a St. Regis Hotel doesn’t come cheap, but with Points and Miles, luxury hotel stays become affordable. As at the time of my stay, the cost of this suite was $1,815 per night. The cash rate for the Superior Guest Room 1 King which I initially booked with 50,000 points was for $645.

THE CORNER ST. REGIS SUITE SPOT:

Exiting the elevator on the 9^th floor, it didn’t take too much time before locating my St. Regis Corner Suite 940. A 1000sqft (90sqm) charm with an expansive seating area with wraparound sectional sofa, a dining area, automated drapes, 65-inch TV, a wet/mini bar.

The suite features state-of-the-art amenities like 2 iPads which controls pretty much all the features in the suite. There were 2 cordless phones and 1 desk phone present in the suite as well. One of the best things I enjoyed at the St. Regis Atlanta was the many radio stations on the tablets. The jazz station playing on arrival was a perfect station for a perfect mood in a perfect suite.

The bedroom is complemented with a King Size bed with pillowtop mattress which felt so comfortable I almost didn’t want to get up for breakfast the next morning . Thanks to in-room dining which was the only option for dining during my visit. More on that shortly.

The bedroom also has another LED flat TV mounted on the wall with a contemporary TV stand below it.

THE BATHROOM

The bathroom was well-appointed and has a sense of luxury all around it. The massive soaking tub was the center of attraction of the bathroom, and this is in addition to the walk-in shower with a rainfall shower head, a walk-in toilet, 2 sink bathroom vanities, lighted makeup mirror, a vanity makeup mirror with a faux-leather swivel vanity stool.

The bath suite also features 2 Frette Velour Shawl Collar Robes to complement the Frette luxury linens in this Corner St. Regis Suites. When staying at a St. Regis Hotel, one of the things I look forward to is collecting some Laboratoire Remède bath products. This St. Regis exclusive rejuvenating potions combine modern science with botanical ingredients.

With a class of its’ own, although not cheap, but The St. Regis Atlanta will make a perfect staycation especially during this time that there are travel restrictions due to the global pandemic.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE:

While many luxury hotels are currently cutting cost and hiding under the guise of Covid-19 to offer limited breakfast option, the St. Regis Atlanta sets itself apart by offering full breakfast service with reasonable items on the menu. Although only in-room dining options are available which in my own opinion was even perfect. A breakfast in bed sounds great any day any time.

For Marriott elites breakfast benefit, the hotel offers $80 credits per suite/room. Using one of the iPads, I ordered for a breakfast that could complement the suite and my mood. While in-room dining is great, there are some caveats. A 22% service charge, 8% sales tax, and a $5 delivery charge apply to your bill.

You can also visit Atlas Buckhead or Chops Lobster Bar / Restaurants at the hotel for lunch or dinner.

HOTEL AMENITIES:

The hotel is all around decorated with original artwork, furnishings, fireplace to steam up during Atlanta’s chilly nights. 

Another center of attraction at this hotel is the 40,000 square-foot Pool Piazza. Whether you want to cool off at the pool after an intense workout in the hotel’s Athletic Club, or just want to hang out at the waterside bar, the Pool Piazza has it all. 

The Athletic Club at The St. Regis Atlanta is a standard gym with modern workout equipment. You don’t get to see Peloton bikes at every hotel gym.

AMENITIES TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE:

On a normal day, the hotel offers its breakfast at the Astor court overlooking the lobby which was closed for table services during my visit. The St. Regis Bar was also closed during this time. The Butler service was also not being offered as at the time of my visit.

 

THE HOTEL STAFF:

I found the staff at this hotel to be very friendly and courteous. I was welcomed with a St. Regis kindness from the Valet staff the moment I pulled in. Housekeeping was prompt with turndown service, and room service was at a reasonable speed despite the limited service being offered. The staff at the Pool Piazza was very friendly and accommodating too, and I felt comfortable chatting with many of the staff during my stay. My newspaper was delivered to the door in the morning per my request. The newspaper was hung at my doorknob in a fancy St. Regis bag. Another great touch from the hotel.

When you stay at expensive hotels like The St. Regis, you shouldn’t have to worry about security. During my stay, I bumped into a police officer in plain clothes on the 4^th floor and we had a conversation for a few minutes before going our separate ways.

WIFI:

One of the rooms for improvement will be the WiFi Internet. While the WiFi speed was good enough for normal browsing, The Points Engineer believes the hotel could go an extra length by providing enhanced internet with better speed. The WiFi test returned a 13.66 Mbps download speed and 14.59 Mbps upload speed respectively. The WiFi at The St. Regis Atlanta passed The Points Engineer’s WiFi test.

IN CONCLUSION:

I had a great experience during my stay here at The St. Regis Atlanta. There couldn’t have been a better way or location to redeem 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points and a Suite Night Award (SNA). The location was perfect, service was great, very friendly and courteous staff, excellent food, and so much more. The hotel did a great job with all the services provided while still following the guidelines regarding Covid-19. One of which was having a hand sanitization area in all the elevators and other areas of the hotel.

Would I be back here again? Absolutely!
