Marriott Bonvoy introduces 50% Extra Elite Night Credits and Off-Peak Redemption Rates
Marriott Bonvoy has just announced another offer that will enable its elite members to fast-track achieving status for the year 2022. Seeing how COVID-19 has affected a lot of travel plans this year, the world’s biggest hotel chain is offering 50% extra elite night credits to give you a head start towards earning status next year. Marriott Ambassador elite members will also be able to gift Platinum status.
The hotel brand is also putting more than 5,500 properties around the world on off-peak redemption rates. For bookings made between June 15-30 and stay through July 31, 2020. Whether you’re doing a staycation or you’re planning a road trip a little far away from home, you can take advantage of this lowest rates of the year.
The 50% Elite Night Credits (ENCs) is based on the elite status you earned in 2019, and you can expect the credits to be deposited into your Marriott Bonvoy account by the end of July.

And if you’re a Marriott Bonvoy credit cardholder, the 50% ENCs are in addition to the ones you’ll get from your eligible Marriott Bonvoy credit cards. For example, if you have the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card, you’ll get another 15 nights in addition to the 50% from the elite status you achieved in 2019.

Earlier in the year, Marriott made some updates to its program by extending status earned in 2019 to be valid through February of 2022. Points expiration is paused till February 2021, Suite Night Awards (SNAs) extended through December 31, 2021, and Free Night Award (FNA) extended through January 31, 2021.

If you qualified for Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador elite status in 2019, you can share the gift of Platinum status with a friend, family member, or a loved one. But there’s a catch. You’ll need to stay at least 50 nights this year in addition to the 50 ENCs to be able to take advantage of that perk.
In conclusion, while this offer favors lower tiers elites, in my highest opinion it does not favor Titanium and Ambassador members. Kayode is currently a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium elite with 127 nights in 2019. And as at the time of this post, he is currently at 42 nights plus 15 upcoming nights already booked. With that being said, this offer does not favor him as he will requalify titanium in 2020 without the additional nights from Marriott Bonvoy. The only thing is, those nights count towards lifetime status. It would have been more beneficial for many titanium elites if the $20,000 spend requirement to qualify for Ambassador elite was also slashed, or at least an opportunity to rollover excess nights.
It would also have been better if the off-peak rate was for stay dates through December 31 instead of July 31 as this would have been beneficial to many people towards their summer travels. But regardless, this was still a good offer from Marriott.

Kayode currently holds higher status on multiple airlines and hotel programs. He has visited 4 continents, 30 countries, and 35 of the 50 US states.
He began his adventure journey after selling his first cellphone ever, and used the money to apply for his first passport. He said to himself, “I’d rather have a passport than a cellphone”. And since then, he has been globetrotting.
