JAL First Class Lounge Tokyo Narita
by Kayode
Tokyo Narita Airport is a bustling hub of travel for Japan Airlines, welcoming millions of passengers from all over the world. At this airport located the JAL First Class Lounge, a haven of comfort and relaxation for elite travelers. My wife and I spent a few hours here prior to our flight in Japan Airlines Business Class from Tokyo, Japan to Jakarta, Indonesia. The lounge promises an array of amenities, ranging from dining options to resting areas, ensuring a pleasant pre-flight experience.
Although we were flying on this intra-Asia flight in business class, we were able to utilize the First Class check-in counters to further expedite our baggage drop-off experience even further. Thanks to my oneworld Emerald status. And it didn’t end there, our bags were tagged with JAL First Class baggage tags.
Location & Opening Hours:
The JAL First Class Lounge Tokyo Narita is located on the fourth floor of the Narita airport Terminal 2. The lounge is open from 7:30 in the morning until 10pm in the evening, accommodating a wide range of JAL First Classflight schedules. Though, this time can vary from time to time, depending on flight schedules. The JAL Sakura Lounge, which is the airlines’ business class lounge, is located on the third floor.
Check-In Experience:
Checking into the JAL First Class Lounge was a breeze, and the staff are attentive and welcoming. Guests are checked in at the reception located on the third floor and are then sent to the lounge on the fourth floor via elevator. As an oneworld Emerald elite member, I was pleasantly surprised to be granted access even though my upcoming flight was in business class. This, among many other benefits, are one of the reasons I went for that Extreme Mileage Runs on Alaska Airlines late last year to retain my MVP Gold 75K status.
Seating Areas:
I felt a little disappointed the moment I entered into the lounge. Having been to the likes of Emirates First Class Lounge Dubai several times, with each visit providing us excellent experience. The JAL First Class lounge didn’t live up to that excellence. But it offers a variety of seating areas, each designed for different needs. From cozy armchairs for relaxation to workstations equipped with charging points, the lounge caters to various preferences. There is ample space for solo travelers and groups alike.
Based on my experience at the JAL First Class Lounge, the Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Lounge Doha offers a better service if you ask me.
Dining Areas:
JAL seems to have prioritized dining over relaxation while this lounge was being designed, as there were abundance of dining chairs and tables compared to the limited armchairs available.
Food & Beverage:
The dining options at the JAL First Class Lounge are one of the highlights of the lounge. A buffet area and a sushi sake bar are available, offering a selection of delectable dishes.
The self-service bar area offers a variety of drinks, including Japanese wines, champagne, liquors, coffee, beer, and canned sodas.
For our meal, I opted to use the QR code at my table to place orders, and the service was prompt and efficient. The food itself was flavorful and satisfying, but the Tiramisu dessert had way too much coffee.
Other Amenities:
The lounge provides additional amenities to enhance the pre-flight experience. Spotlessly maintained showers offer a chance to freshen up, and the lavatory facilities are consistently clean.
A designated sleeping area is available to catch some rest before flights. The lounge also has baggage storage lockers, massage chairs, and telephone pods. Amenities which all further contribute to the lounge’s convenience.
Overall Impression:
While the JAL First Class Lounge Tokyo Narita offers a range of amenities and services, it doesn’t exude the opulence typically associated with first-class lounges. The decor and ambiance, while pleasant, lean more towards a business-class atmosphere. This contrast left me curious about the Japan Airlines business class lounge next door, called Sakura Lounge, and its level of luxury.
In sum, the JAL First Class Lounge Tokyo Narita provides a comfortable and convenient respite for us during our visit. Its accessible policy, diverse amenities, flavorful dining options and self-serve bar are undoubtedly appealing. However, those seeking the utmost in luxurious surroundings might find themselves wondering if it fully aligns with the lavishness of Japan Airlines’ renowned First Class service.
