American Airlines Admirals Club Miami (MIA) Airport
by Kayode
The Admirals Club at Gate D30 MIA is one of American Airlines finest clubs. This recently renovated lounge is a place where one can refresh before a flight, or even after a long flight. After a fabulous week of retreat in Miami where I stayed at hotels like The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort and also The Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne, I had a quick stop at this lounge before my next flight to Dallas Fort-Worth (DFW) International Airport.
Since this was a visit during COVID-19 whereby some of the Admirals Club amenities were not available, it certainly was still a great thing being able to pop into a club lounge with confidence about safety and cleanliness.
There are 3 Admirals Club located in MIA, one in Concourse D Gate D15, this one in Gate D30 which is being reviewed, and the third one in Concourse E Gate E2. The Gate D30 location also features a Flagship Lounge which is currently closed due to the global pandemic.
The Admirals Club is open from 4:30 am – 10:30 pm. For how to access the lounge, see American Airlines Admirals Club and Alaska Lounge Membership for $100.
After checking in on the concourse level, the lounge is one level up and you can use the elevator or choose to walk up the stairs on the grand staircase as seen in the featured image. A lot has changed in 2020 and we all have adopted the new normal, therefore the kind of service you receive may be slightly different from what it used to be.
Another set of front desks are located upstairs with attendants available to help you with any flight related problems. As at the time of this post, the lounge has modified its mode of operations whereby an attendant will walk you to a seat in order to maintain social distancing. And once seated, the same attendant or a different one will take your order for beverages. A bag of snacks will also accompany your drinks.
This was my second visit at the Admirals Club Miami Gate D30 and for the second time, I still haven’t seen anyone seating on any of these set of chairs that looks more of a decoration. These chairs are located not too far away from the entrance which could be the reason why people actually don’t sit on them. But they sure made a good decoration though.

One of the things that American Airlines did right at most of its upgraded Admirals Club was having power outlets and USB ports at almost on all the seats. This does provide some level of comfort for the guests. It’s worth mentioning that the staff at this lounge are doing a fantastic job by cleaning and disinfecting every surface around each seating area as soon as guests vacate the seats. For everyone in the aviation and hospitality industry doing their best to make many of us feel safe during this corona virus, we say a big thank you for all you do.
Like many other Admirals Club locations, the Gate D30 Admirals club has a great view of the apron where I spotted a couple of Boeing 777s widebody.

The quiet zone has 10 daybeds with a small table and a lamp in-between each lounger. 2 among these tables has wireless charging which I found to be another great touch from American Airlines. As an engineer and a tech geek, I tested this wireless charger by using it to charge my phone and it worked as expected.
Seating on one of the loungers in the quiet zone with a view of the concourse where you’ll find some passengers rocking on one of these rocking chairs can actually make you fall asleep easily.

The bar wasn’t open yet during my visit and the dining area was not operational at that time due to COVID. But any member of the staff can take your order which will be brought to your table.
The lounge has shower rooms which would probably not be open until after COVID, but the restrooms was spotless and well maintained.
For business travelers needing to get some work done while in the lounge, you can set up your own workstation in the business center.

My Take on This Lounge:
It was a great lounge to unwind and escape from the hustle and bustle of the crowdy terminals. Although this was a visit during COVID and many amenities were not available, it was great seeing the lounge still maintaining that fresh look. The staff at the lounge was very amazing, and proper safety measures were in place as per the guidelines to prevent COVID.
