Located in Terminal 1 at JFK airport, the Lufthansa Lounge JFK is an oasis, away from the hustle and bustle of the airport terminals. Boasting three floors, this lounge caters to various passengers. However, the third floor is exclusively reserved for the Lufthansa’s First Class passengers, offering an exclusive First Class Wining and Dining. Second floor on the other hand, is the Lufthansa Senator Lounge section.
As Japan Airlines First Class passengers, we had the opportunity to visit this Lufthansa Lounge at JFK Airport and it was kind of a letdown. Our overall experience in the lounge left us with mixed feelings, with several aspects falling short of our expectations.
Friendly Check-in Experience:
Upon entering the Lufthansa Lounge, we were greeted by a friendly agent who efficiently checked us in after scanning our JAL First Class boarding passes. This personalized service added a welcoming touch and ensured a smooth and hassle-free entry into the lounge.
Accessibility and Membership:
As of January 2023, the Lufthansa Lounge JFK Airport is open from 8:30am until midnight and provides access to a wide range of passengers from other airlines like Japan Airlines, Star Alliance Gold members, and both Lufthansa First and Business Class travelers. This lounge is also open to Priority Pass cardholders, though the lounge may not be accessible at some hours of the day due to capacity constraints.
Seating Areas and Amenities:
The Lufthansa Lounge JFK Airport impresses with its abundance of seating areas, providing ample space for passengers to relax and unwind on comfortable seats. Whether you prefer cozy chairs or more spacious seating arrangements, there is a variety of options to suit different preferences.
In addition to the seating areas, the lounge also features a separate TV viewing section where passengers can catch up on their favorite sports or stay informed with the latest news.
There are dedicated dining areas with tables and chairs at different floors in the lounge, allowing guests to enjoy their meals in a comfortable setting.
Views and Plane Spotting:
One highlight of the lounge was the impressive view of the apron. We enjoyed observing various aircraft, including Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Saudi Airlines, and Asiana Airlines. Notably, the presence of an Air France Boeing 777 aircraft caught our attention, adding a touch of excitement to the experience.
Food and Beverage Options:
Food options in the lounge left much to be desired. We found some items, particularly the fresh fruit and mandarins, to be less appealing and lacking in flavor. The hot food served was disappointingly cold, failing to meet the expected standards of a premium lounge. There is room for improvement in this area.
But the lounge boasts a well-stocked bar, offering a selection of beverages to cater to various tastes. From premium spirits to fine wines and non-alcoholic options, guests can enjoy a refreshing drink before or in-between their flights.
Conclusion:
Despite the positive aspects mentioned, we must admit that we were not thoroughly impressed with the Lufthansa Lounge at JFK Airport. Even more disappointing since we were there as JAL First Class passengers. The underwhelming food options, lack of luxury amenities in the bathrooms, and the overall experience left us wanting more.
I think this lounge would serve domestic passengers or Priority Pass cardmembers better than passengers flying on long-haul flights. However, it’s important to note that individual experiences can vary, and improvements may have been made since our visit.
